Intel NUC D54250WYKH2 BIOS does not detect SSD

Hello,

I just received my Intel NUC D54250WYKH2  which I would like to use as XBMC Media Player. Since I already had a 120GB (G.Skill) SSD which I did not need before I wanted to use this in my NUC. So I assembled everything as shown in the manual and started the system. For some reason it did not detect my SSD. I know there are compatibility lists for mSSD Drives, but I am not planning to use an mSSD since I already have an SSD and the manual shows that both can be used in my case.

I already updated BIOS to the latest version but it still does not detect the SSD. Has anyone an idea what I can do?

Kind regards

Nuc 34010WYK and Win 7 - CIR not working

Hi!

First off, the intel NUC is a wonderful little machine, and I enjoy it a lot!

However, I am currently struggling to get the built-in Nuvoton CIR to work running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I have the latest drivers, and it shows as both Nuvoton and eHome devices in device management. I am using an Xbox 360 media remote, and it should work with the eHome driver as well (accordinmg  to several sources). I've seen a registry hack where Windows should listen to all IR channels, and have performed that one. But nothing works.

I have both the eHome and Nuvoton devices listed in device management, should both be there, or should only the eHome device be?

I am using eventghost to try and register any inputs, but nothing is registered.

Do you guys have any suggestions to any software that can be used to check if any signals are being registered with the CIR on win 7? I know it isn't hardware related, as I got the the built-in receiver to work with an apple remote on linux.

How do I get the built-in CIR to work with any remote on Windows 7? If you can specifically help with the xbox 360 media remote, that would also be awesome

Very poor wireless reception of NUC D54250WYK with AN6235

Just bought a D54250WYK and a Advanced-N 6235 wireless adapter.

I am aware that there are quite some complaints on the forum about 6235 card working with the NUC, that the network connection drops every once in a while. Upgrading to the latest BIOS seems will solve the problem.

My problem here, however, is different. It's not that the connection drops, but it just cannot connect to the network when it's relatively weak.

I know the signal is not very strong in my house -- the NUC is placed in my sleeping room but the router is in the living room, and there are two walls in between. I also have lots of interference from the neighbors. Anyway, my two laptops can still show full signal bars when using at the same place in the sleeping room, and all my two phones and one tablet also work fine without any connection drop although the signal bars are not full.

The NUC, however, cannot even connect to the network most of the time. Even when it somehow connected, it's every unstable and drops the connection every a few minutes due to the weak signal, and the speed is always limited around 0.5 Mbps.

I took the NUC to my office where the AP is just 2 meters away, and it seems work well, but even then the signal showed in the notification area fluctuated between 4-5 bars.

Windows 8.1 64-bit is freshly installed with all latest updates, all drivers are the latest. I also confirmed the two antennas are firmly attached and color matched with the manual, and I also confirmed the antennas are well soldered and attached on the top panel of the case by taking out the motherboard.

I can't believe this little box has even worse reception than a mobile phone...This is barely usable.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

b

Intermittent video artifacts with NUC D54250WYK

Hi guys

I'm getting occasional video artifacts on a new D54250WYK which I am using as an HTPC. The artifacts always look the same, flashing red/orange dots.

I have seen these artifacts occur while watching video using Plex Home Theater, and also just on the Windows 8.1 desktop. I have not seen these artifacts in the bios yet.

I have attached a screenshot to help you understand the problem. I would like to know what troubleshooting I could perform as I am hoping this is a software issue. I have updated all drivers to be current as @ July 2014.

Not able to make use of serial ports on DE3815TYBE

Hi:

I need to make use of the serial ports onboard of my NUC DE3815TYBE board, running Linux. I have not been able to do that. In the "Technical Product Specification" is stated that the board have a serial port header, with 2 ports in it (page 43, table 14). However I have tested the board with various Linux distros, and most of them shown only one port (tty0.):

$ dmesg | grep tty

console [tty0] enabled

serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A

Linux Lite Nuc however shows 3 (tty0. tty4, tty5):

$ dmesg | grep tty

[    0.000000] console [tty0] enabled

[    1.263408] serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4, base_baud = 115200) is a 16550A

[   56.517355] 80860F0A:00: ttyS4 at MMIO 0xd0757000 (irq = 39, base_baud = 2764800) is a 16550A

[   56.576911] 80860F0A:01: ttyS5 at MMIO 0xd075d000 (irq = 40, base_baud = 2764800) is a 16550A

Despite that, when I tested the ports, with a simple TX/RX terminal program, the ports are not able to send or receive.

My question is, how should be recognized the ports by Linux, and how should I enable them?

For the record, some days ago I did the same question to a Intel support person via chat, who told me I should boot using "Legacy" mode. Despite that, the ports still without working for me.

Thanks.

Intel NUC D34010WYKH network adapter problem

$

I've got an Intel NUC D34010WYKH with a sudden network adapter problem that I'm trying to solve. The small company I work for currently has two of these boxes with identical hardware in them, and one of them has been in use for several months by one of our work at home employees here in town, and it has has had no issues. The second one was deployed a month ago, and developed the problem just this morning. Unfortunately for me, this user is a contract employee on the other side of the country.

The employee normally leaves the machine on overnight, but this morning when she went to unlock it, it had apparently crashed. She held down the power button to get it to start up again, and after going through the Windows 7 failed to shut down properly procedures, she was able to log in again. However, the network adapter will no longer start.

I walked her through various troubleshooting procedures: disabling & re-enabling the adapter, swapping cables & ports on the router, uninstalling & reinstalling updated drivers, updating the BIOS, even a System Restore to around 10 days ago. I spent 90 minutes on the phone with her, but I had no luck in fixing the issue. She's going to dig around in the system logs to see if there's anything that might be useful that she can send me screen captures of. In particular, something that might indicate what caused the original crash, although I fear these may have been lost with the System Restore.

I'm at a loss as to what else I could do, aside from see if there's any diagnostic tools floating around that she could try using to see if that gives us any more details. It seems like either way we're going to be ordering another NUC & parts, have her send her machine back to us and swap them out, and then do additional testing.

Does anybody else have any ideas or experience in dealing with this kind of issue? I've seen flaky adapters in other machines, but that can be dealt with with a NIC card; obviously not a solution here. I also don't consider getting her a wireless card for the NUC as an ideal solution, even if she has a wireless-capable router.

D34010WYK - USB3 HDD disconnects when goes to sleep in W7

Hi,

I have an external hdd in an USB3 icy box enclosure (IB-368STU3-B) and every 15 minutes the usb disconnects. I assume it's when the disk goes to sleep.

The only way I have to get the disk detected again is to unplug/plug the usb or the on/off button.

I tried an usb2 cable and a different hdd, same issue.

I uninstalled the intel usb 3 driver, same thing.

Icy box send me a new controller card for the enclosure, still no change.

So I assume the problem comes from the NUC.

Technical infos :

- Running W7 SP1 64bit

- BIOS rev 027, all drivers updated.

- Icy box sata bridge controller card : Genesys Logic gl3310 (Genesys Logic, Inc.)

- all energy saving options disabled in windows

My guess is a compatibility issue between the intel usb 3 controller and the genesys logic one.

Any thoughts ?

Intel Wireless AC7260 performance issues D54250WYKH

Hi everyone.

Is anyone using this card getting really bad performance? As a comparison using speedtest.net my NUC is only getting 16Mbps compared to my macbook which is in the same area getting 60-70Mbps.

Is this to do with this particular card? I've updated to the latest drivers as of today and nothing has improved.

Thanks in advance.

DC3217BY kernel panic - help wanted for kernel crash dump

$

I've bought a Intel NUC Kit DC3217BY, to use as a linux box remote server (alfresco 5)

Updated the bios to the latest available version.

I added  the following HW componets:

  • SSD 250GB Samsung 840 Evo mSATA,
  • RAM SO-DIMM DDR3 8GB/1600Mhz CRUCIAL Ballistix Sport [2x4GB] KIT CL9 1.35V / 1,5V rt
  • Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
  • Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400

  • FIRST TEST - Ubuntu 14.04 kernel panic & freeze

I've installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Intel(R) Graphics Installer 1.0.6 for Linux. The system installed flawlessly.

Then I experimented repeated system crash (with kernel panic dump screen) or system lock (with desktop freeze)

This happened either during navigation on web, either during video decoding of some personal video mjpg on a usb key.

  • SECOND TEST - Fedora 20 system freeze

So I installed Fedora 20 and Intel(R) Graphics Installer 1.0.6 for Linux

The system installed flawlessly.

There was no system crash with kernel panic dump screen, BUT there was some desktop freeze. The system was in some way more stable, but froze/crashed sometimes

  • POSSIBLE SOLUTION - Help Needed
I would like to contribute to fix this problem. It is not clear if the freeze depends because the of video, the network or something else......

Could it be possible to get help for a kernel memory dump and provide it to Intel for a technical analysis ?

Any ideas or help ?

I would prefer to fix it under Ubuntu 14.04.....

Best regards

Hello! My Intel NUC specimen doesn't start. The Power LED indicator always lights and cooler doesn't work. Is that type of RAM compatitable with D34010WYK/ In the discussion about D54250WYK user Silvia_Intel wrote that CT102464BF160B.M16FED is work well. So I wonder about what happend using the same memory with C16FER ending.

dn2820fyk no video / usb seems unpowered

I have just taken delivery of a dn2820fyk NUC. I have added Crucial CMS04GX3M1A1600C11 4Gbyte ram. The Crucial website says this is 1.35 v. I wanted to boot up and upgrade the BIOS

so booted without any HDD. However, I cannot see any activity on either of two DVI monitors and I don't see any keyboard flash when I power on. I see various threads where this kind of thing has happened. I checked inside and my jumper appears to be on pins 1 & 2.

When I remove the memory I do see the memory error power button flash pattern.

I also tried to upgrade the bios by removing the jumper and using a USB flash memory device (FAT32 12Mb) containing FY0038.bio.

I see no evidence of activity when powering up in this mode. Additionally my flash memory normally indicates it's working with a green pulsing LED.

However when it is connected I see no evidence that the LED is active. It is as though the USB isn't on.

The keyboard flashes when connected and I first connect the AC, but not after the power button is pressed.

Any ideas of how to get this working are welcome.

Static noise when connecting a Intel NUC D54250WYK

$

Hi!

My friend and I have for some time had issues with our D54250WYKs. I had the issue at the very start when I first received my NUC, and then it disappeared. It came back again last week after I brought the NUC to the cabin (where it worked flawlessly too, as it had been for six months in my house too). When I connected it to my home cinema system back home, the problem reappeared. My friend has had his problem all along since it was new.

They are two exact same products. Though, we have different brands of receivers, tv, and different hdmi cables.

Our problem appears as follows, when ever we plug the power connector into the NUC, and the HDMI in both ends, we get crackling static noise from the speakers. Most noticable for me on front, center and subwoofer speakers. I have power amps connected to my front and center speakers. It is most noticeable for me, probably because of the power amps. My friend just disconnects his subwoofer when he use the NUC and he isn't "that bothered" by it, but it is clearly there, just not that loud as with my NUC. I don't even have to power on the NUC to hear it, it is enough just to connect the HDMI and the power cord and then it starts humming and crackling on the speakers. When powered on, the noise level increases, and when playing music or a movie on the NUC, it gains even more in sound level. It seems like it is not related to the volume of the sound output nor the volume on the receiver. It's just there with the same sound level no matter if at -60db, -40db or at -15db on the receiver. On 10% volume in Winamp, or 100% volume in Winamp.

I have tried to plug it directly into the tv, where I can't hear the static crackling noise from the tv speakers, however if the monitor hdmi cable from my receiver is connected to a hdmi on the tv, I will get the same static crackling noise on the sound system. I have tried different cables, different hdmi ports on the receiver, but it is all the same.

My PS3, digital tv box, and several other computers work just fine through hdmi on the same receiver and hdmi port. Hell breaks loose whenver the NUC is connected to anything...

I need help with this problem now, and would like some input from you guys if you have had any similar problems like this and what you did to get rid of it, if even possible.

Receiver: Yamaha RX-A1030

Power amps: NAD C272

TV: LG 60PK250N

Following computers / video cards works fine too with no static noise: Asus UX31A, AMD Radeon HD7950, AMD Radeon HD7850.

Thanks a lot guys, appreciate any help.

DN2820FYKH does nothing

$

Hey,

some days ago I finally got my Intel NUC DN2820FYKH. I put a Kingston KVR16LS11S6/2 in it which should be compatible according to this document: CMTL > Search > Tested Motherboard

But my NUC does exactly nothing. I only got a black screen, my keyboard didn't work (it was also not possible to turn num lock on) and the power led is just on. To look if my NUC is broken I removed the Kingston memory. Then I got a blink code that there is a problem with the memory. So my NUC must be working basically?

Anyways, I put the memory back in. Because I have no HDD in I should get a prompt that there is nothing to boot from. But I only get a black screen. I tried different TV's and screens, also different HDMI cables but I only get a black screen, no prompt or anything.

This problem should be solved with a BIOS update to the latest version. I read a lot about that and downloaded the latest .BIO file, put it on an empty USB flash drive, removed the BIOS jumper from the mainboard and hoped that the BIOS update will work. But again, nothing happened. No blinking power led and so no BIOS update. I even tried four different USB sticks and also formatted in FAT, FAT32 or NTFS but nothing worked.

Now, after 4 days of trying and searching I still haven't found any way to get my NUC working. And I also have no second memory or any possibility to test my memory if it is working. But my NUC doesn't blink when turning on so my memory must work?

It also seems to be a bit odd that a USB LED keyboard does nothing when turning the NUC on. When I put it on my normal computer, it lights up. But not on my NUC...

So is there any way I haven't found already? No BIOS update is working with my USB flash drives, no keyboard is working and I only get a black screen, no matter which HDMI cable or screen I use. It's just on and does nothing. Sometimes, when I have a keyboard or USB flash drive on my NUC and turn it on it just turns off again after some seconds. Then, after some more seconds it turns on again...

I hope you can help me with that!
