NUC717BNH - Random USB Disconnect (?) Sounds (for Amy C. - see locked topic)

Hi Amy,

Remember me from last summer After six months of living with the issue... I had gotten use to the random sound, Otherwise, the unit was working great.

Today, however, while I was just sitting at the screen watching a video, there was (it sounded to me) a popping sound and the screen suddenly went black - the unit shut down - the power is dead (no lights). The plug works fine on another mini-computer. So it must have been a faulty unit after all.

Is your offer to replace it still good?

Thanks and best,

Michael (Ross)

NUC7i5bnh on Android

I am running Android 7.1 RC2 on my NUC.  I know it's not an officially supported OS yet, but I am hoping to find some advice nonetheless.  I am not opposed to buying an adapter - anything to find a solution.

I have it running very well now, except for one thing.  Audio works, but I can't change the volume using my Rii i8+ remote.  More specifically, it goes only from 0 to 100.  It won't go to anything in between.  One click volume up goes to 100, one click volume down goes to 0.  I don't think it's anything specific to the remote...just an issue with HDMI audio currently.  I have a soundbar.  The soundbar does have an optical input, which I am currently using for my cable box.  I am willing to switch it over for the NUC, but I believe the NUC does not have an optical audio port.  Do I have any options there?  Or any other suggestions for a workaround?  Thanks much in advance for any advice.  I'm not looking for "switch to a different OS".    I have used Windows, LibreElec, and even tried a couple of Linux distros on the NUC.  I think overall Android is going to suit me best...just need to get past this one challenge.

5i5RYK and RST

The specs say that the 5i5RYK supports Rapid Storage Technology.  But when I try to install it I get an error message saying my hardware doesn't support RST.

I have a Samsung SM951 AHCI M.2 256GB SSD.  I'm looking to get a non-Microsoft SATA driver and on my work computer installing RST did just that.

Or is there another way to get the non-Microsoft driver?

Thx

NUC6CAYS Spdif Toslink out not working in 5.1

Hi there.

I bought the NUC6CAYS two days ago, to use it has a HTPC, but I´ve been having multiple issues. One of the reasons I bought this was because it has a SPDIF Toslink Optical port, so I though I could connect it to my Home Cinema and have 5.1 digital sound but that doesn't happen, I can only get PCM (stereo) sound. I have all Intel drivers installed, can someone please help?

I also been having much trouble updating Windows 10 to the Fall Creators Update since it says I dont have enough space, which is incredible.

Cheers

DC53427HYE could not find 'internal UEFI shell' option in bios----now bricked

Hi,

I need to change(restore) the logo in NUC DC53427HYE according to Integrator Toolkit User Guide.

But in the BIOS options(F2), when I go to Advanced->Boot->Boot Configuration>Boot devices I couldn't find any option about 'internal UEFI shell'.

My bios version is 0049 which is the latest.

Can anyone help me?

Best regards,

DiRaed

-----------------------------5 hours later-----------------------------

After I used an external shell, it seemed the ITK6.efi worked. Then I created myCustombio.bio.

But when I tried to flash myCustombio.bio back(F7), it showed 'bios mismatch', whitout any choice it rebooted (Which is different from the manual having choice to select).

After many tries and fails, I had to choose 'BIOS-Recovery-Update' wishing to downgrade the version to to see if there is a 'internal EIF shell'.

This turned into a disaster. Afer pressing for 3s, nothing happened, in fact bios haven't been operated by keyboard, the screen just turn dark and no signal. Although every step was acording to the manual, now the NUC only keep blinking blue light for 0.5s with an interal of 5s and no screen, no fan.

The DC53427HYE is bricked. Thanks for the OEM factory to insert a logo.

Gen4 NUC D34010WYK - after (meltdown/spectre) BIOS Update NUC starts itself every 24h

Hi, I did a BIOS upgrade from 027 to 046 a few das ago and since that time the NUC starts by itself (with or without LAN) cable attached every 24 h - consistently. This 24 h startup is around the time the FW update was done - 11:45 UTC

Tried BIOS defaults and finally I did a hard BIOS recovery to 027 (Jumper and USB stick) but the problem persists. Now the 24h start cycle is in sync with the firmware recovery time from yesterday. Now it start itself at 12:45 UTC.

I should mention that I checked the relevant Power and Boot setting with regard to WOL and this S5 timer Option. No changes I did between up and downgrades.

I did not find similar issues yet but something that might related to it:

NUC Boots up on its Own

Though no help for me as my NUC never had a WIndows on it. It is or was home for OpenElec and now LIbreElec.

Any help or recommendation is appreciated.Thx!

NUC7i3BNH keeps restarting after BIOS update

Hello,

I have downloaded latest BIOS (v 61) and when update started, NUC keeps restarting all the time in about 60 seconds intervals (surprisingly once it started few days ago) . Screen (connected via HDMI) is blank, keyboard has all all LEDs off and mouse doesn't shine.

I have disconnected SSD - no change

if I remove memory, it indicates memory issue (power LED flashes 3 times)

CMOS reset doesn't help.

Is there anything I can do except applying warranty?

Thanks for help!

Regards,

NUC7i3 BIOS 61 Windows 10 start menu not to be open

Since the update to BIOS v061 my Windows 10 1709 Home Premium is not working fine. The system starts normally, after logging in sometimes all icons in the taskbar incl. start menu are not clickable. Shortcuts like Win + X do not work either. Icons on the desktop are clickable. The error affects all configured users. After one or more restarts it will work again.

Who can help?

The Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA) is getting a tune up. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Over the last week, I keep getting a pop up message from the Intel driver and support assistant saying I have 1 update.  I've used this assistant in the past many times with little problem.

When I click the check for new drivers option it opens the driver support assistant webpage, but instead of checking my drivers and telling me what needs to be updated, instead I get the message:

The Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA) is getting a tune up.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Now, before anyone tells me to just go download the update or driver or whatever manually, I have no idea what update it's referring to, and I'm not going to spend hours trying to figure it out.  And before someone tells me it's incompatible with my system, that too is wrong, I've used it many times in the past.

So what is this tune up, why is it taking so long, and when will it be fixed?  Yes, it is a major inconvenience. I don't like watching a movie or working on my computer and get constant annoying pop ups telling me I need to update something only to find out the updater no longer works.  Is somebody fixing this or is it now abandonware?  What is going on?

NUC 5i5RYH Bios 368 Slow Performance

$

Hi,

After updating to the new 368 bios, my NUC 5i5RYH was very slow. The machine is basically only used for web browsing and some other light tasks as a secondary PC, so I'm not asking much of it. Just running the Windows file browser and web browsers was very slow.

-Responsiveness was very sluggish. It felt like an old atom PC with a slow spinning drive.

-Program launching was slow and would often stall. I updated some drivers right after the bios update and some the installers would just sit there for minutes with no progress. Then they would eventually finish.

-Even maximizing a window was slow and would take a few seconds.

-Browsing directories was slow.

The difference was very noticeable.

On benchmarking with Crystal Disk Mark, random 4k read/write SSD performance with high Que Depth was more than cut in half.

This is with the following SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280

368 Bios

   Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) :   550.542 MB/s

  Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) :   528.400 MB/s

Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) :    99.827 MB/s [ 24371.8 IOPS]

Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) :    86.986 MB/s [ 21236.8 IOPS]

         Sequential Read (T= 1) :   480.189 MB/s

        Sequential Write (T= 1) :   463.596 MB/s

   Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) :    25.436 MB/s [  6210.0 IOPS]

  Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) :    64.319 MB/s [ 15702.9 IOPS]

367 Bios

   Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) :   549.253 MB/s

  Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) :   529.140 MB/s

  Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) :   221.303 MB/s [ 54029.1 IOPS]

Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) :   183.992 MB/s [ 44919.9 IOPS]

         Sequential Read (T= 1) :   484.048 MB/s

        Sequential Write (T= 1) :   460.311 MB/s

   Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) :    31.335 MB/s [  7650.1 IOPS]

  Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) :    77.179 MB/s [ 18842.5 IOPS]

I then went back to the 367 bios and all the above issues were resolved. The system is back to its usually fast responsiveness.

This seems similar to this 5i3RYH issue with the 368 bios:

NUC NUC5i3RYH BIOS Version 0368 Slow down

Overall, something seems off about this update. Hopefully the Spectre/Meltdown microcode fix can be improved upon so that it does not destroy I/O performance on the NUC in Windows.

Benchmarks (other than storage ones) won't fully reproduce this. The best way to reproduce this would be to just gauge the responsiveness of the system before and after the 368 update.

Thanks!

NUC6CAYH can't find SATA/AHCI Drivers

Hi,

Cant seem to find drivers for the SATA AHCI Controller other than the standard Windows drivers. I have windows 10 fully updated and have tried various Intel INF packages etc. Any ideas? I find it strange that I would be stuck with the standard driver and not getting the most out of my SSD.

Can people have a look to see what driver they are running for SATA controller please?

HDMI black screen after Windows 1709 patch

NUC515RYH has been happily running as my HTPC for a couple years now.  Recently Windows couldn't hold itself any more and installed the 1709/16299.192 build.

After the patch I can't turn off the HDMI display because if I do then when I turn the display back on I will see the desktop briefly and then the display goes to black. The system is still operational but I can't see anything. The only way to get the display back is to reboot the computer.

Today I updated most of the NUC drivers including the Intel HD 6000 display drivers as well as the latest firmware. No change in behavior. Power down that display even for a moment and it won't come back.

How can this be fixed or worked around? I must be able to turn off the display!
