The fan in my 1 year old Skull Canyon NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK has become very noisy. I have cleaned the fan itself as well as possible but since it's very compact and shielded, I could not clean it further. It does sound like the bearings are not good in any case. I have looked for replacement fans but no luck. Is it possible to get it replaced?
Also, the small metal mounts for the chassis screws have come loose, the plastic holding them seems to have become very brittle. I guess that means I need a new case?

NUC7i5BNK NUC memory query
I recently ordered a Intel NUC7i5BNK NUC, and was deciding on compatible RAM.
I have Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 SODIMM Memory for Mac | CT2C8G4S24AM | Crucial UK and was wondering if a) it'd be compatible, and b) what are the consequences (realistically).
I looked at System Memory for Intel® NUC Kits NUC7i[x]BN and read other related queries and have learned that apparently it'd affect the life span of the processor? How much would it affect it by (relatively speaking and what assumptions)?
Thanks
Edit:
I was comparing my CT8G4S24AM stick with CT8G4SFS824A (from the approved list CMTL > Search > Tested Motherboard > Results) and I couldn't see any obvious differences, but yet their compatibility tool stated that CT8G4S24AM would not work.
I contacted the Crucial live support querying this and they said that it was and I quote "designed for mac". Can anyone expand on this?
Custom bios logo with latest bios KYSKLi70.86A
Hi
I just tried to update the nuc skull with my own custom logo - followed the instructions from the intel intrgator toolkit pdf and made a .bio file with my jpg - No errors.
After a restart i pressed f7 to go to the bios update screen and selected my newly created .bio file. It then restarts to a screen where i can press 9 to allow updating/upgrading. The nuc
tries to install the .bio file but restarts after 1 second without updating the bios logo. I have updated several other (older) nucs logos without problem.
Is the nuc skull really supported in the integrator toolkit and with bios logo update?
BIOS update to address Meltdown/Spectre on 5th Gen Core
I have a few dozen NUC5i7RYH and my org is making a strong push to mitigate Meltdown/Spectre. The latest BIOS release for this kit (0368) was released on Dec 20 2017, just a week or so before the exploits were disclosed. Is there any information on when we can expect an update to address this?
Strange HDMI corruption with Nuc 7i5bnk and Windows 10
Hi.
I just installed my new nuc with windows 10. Applied all windows update (with a lot of troubles and retries), updated all the driver through intel driver assistant and installed Plex server and Kodi.
I strange issue: the computer is running fine. I can connect through Remote Desktop, but the hdmi output doesn’t work. And the strangest thing is that the screen is not black or something else But it shows the last output seen on the tv Before switching to the hdmi input of the nuc.
For example: TV -> Nuc and the screen after going black for a little while shows the last frame of the tv program.
The I try to switch to chrome cast input and everything is fine and I see the screensaver of the chromecast. Then I switch back to the nuc input and I see the last image of the chrome cast screensaver.
This is already happened to me yesterday and the reboot didn’t fix it. And it was impossible to log on. I thought it was a bad windows update happened during the night and I had to reinstall the whole system.
Now its happened again.
What can I do?
I’m thinking of returning my nuc while I still can.
After BIOS update to V50 both NUC's fail to install Windows 10 or Linux
I have 7 NUC's (6i7KYK) they all run ether on .41 or .49... Now I updated 2 of them to .50 and both no fail to install Windows 10 or Linux?!
Any advise?
nuc6i5syk bios update fail
I am on the BIOS version 44 and have tried all the available methods to update to the latest BIOS and they all fail. Can you advise me?
DXVA2-driver for Broadwell - Was: Driver crash during HEVC playback w/DXVA2 (resume)
I refer to the discussion "Driver crash during HEVC playback w/DXVA2 (resume)",
https://communities.intel.com/thread/116386
In my opinion the reply by Intel is clearly insufficient;
It has been demonstrated that the Intel Integrated Graphic Display HD5500 is able to play h.265-videos and it is even possible to skip forward and backward within a video.
So why is it not possible to resume a video at a certain position?
I find it impossible to understand why 'play' and 'resume' are handled different by the driver and 'Hybrid HEVC' sounds more like an excuse than a real technical problem.
Furthermore, especially the 5th generation of Intel NUCs, the Broadwell family, in my view was and is something like a 'gamechanger' / 'breakthrough' within the NUC product line with a correspondingly large user community.
Please reconsider your decision regarding support of hardware accelerated video decoding for the 5th generation!
(I am using an Intel NUC5i3RYK with 2x4 GB Ram, Windows 8.1 64-bit Pro, latest version of Firmware and Graphic card driver updated as of January, 8th).
NUC5PPYH,
I just got a NUC today the model is NUC5PPYH, for some reasons I can't figure out how to install windows 7 on it, because my "legacy boot" is not working, I noticed it is in solid gray so I figured it's either disable or not active at all. Is there a way around that?
Thank You.
Is a 20v MaxOak 50aH battery OK with a NUC?
I am using a NUC to control my telescope which requires 12v for telescope motion; 5v for focuser and 19 volts for the NUC (7i5BNH). At home I can use their regular mains power adapters which I have in a proper electrical watertight box supplied from a professionally installed RCD protected supply in my garden (note here; that I will never be out in the rain/damp as any clouds prevent this hobby!). However, I need a battery solution at 'Dark Sky Sites' where I have no access to mains power.
A MaxOak 50aH battery offers multiple 20v; 12v and 5v outputs (3) simultaneously from the same single battery unit. See this link
Will it be OK to input 20 volts into the NUC? It does say "20V for Laptops" in the MaxOak specification? I do know somebody that is doing this with his i3 NUC and it seems to be working fine (but is it likely to damage the NUC?).
If not, will the NUC run OK off merely 12 volts? It is handling some intensive camera video data.
Thanks
NUC7i5BNH Windows 10 Pro install needs updating
I just bought a NUC7i5BNH and installed 16 GB RAM in it and a 1 TB 2.5" SSD. I boot off a DVD with Windows 10 Pro.
The system seems to go through the Windows 10 Pro install more or less. It copies the files to the disk (I think) since this takes about 20 minutes,
then it checks off Installing Features and checks off Installing Updates, then Finishing Up. Then the system reboots and as it boots it stops
at a light blue screen that says that it needs to get some updates to get Windows working. And then prompts me to use WIFI or network cable to get these updates.
But at this point, the wifi and ethernet Intel drivers are not installed so it cannot get any updates over the network. If I try it tries but cannot get anywhere.
If I reboot it, it keeps stopping at this screen.
Has anyone seen this before and have a way to deal with this?
I assume I cannot install the Intel drivers for the NUC until I have Windows 10 up and running fully.
I have a copy of them all but have not attempted to install them since Windows is not quite up.

BIOS downgrade bricked NUC6CAYH
Last week I updated my NUC6CAYH BIOS to 0045, coming from 0041. A while later, I discovered that CEC (Wake on TV) stopped working, so I downgraded to 0041 with the IFlash utility. Flashing procedure went normal and the system rebooted. After the reboot the system became unresponsive. No activity on USB, HDMI or VGA connections, only Power Button LED lit.
I have tried every imaginable (recovery) solution to revive the system, of which none worked.
After some reading up, I discovered that a downgrade from 0045 to 0041 should not be possible, due to a security enhancement. It seems a message like "Incompatible BIOS Version, Update aborted..." should have aborted the flashing procedure, which it didn't.
I'm curious to know what exactly went wrong. The system clearly ended up in a state from which recovery isn't possible. I have sent the NUC back to the supplier for repair.

Internet stops working after some time randomly
Hi,
I have NUC7i5BNH, which I purchased few months ago. I installed 8 GB Crucial DDR-4, 1TB HDD and Windows 10 Fall Edition (1709). Was working flawlessly up untill recently. I am not sure if it was caused by upgrade of NUC drivers or via Windows update which is set to automatic mode.
I have installed manually several updates for my NUC using Intel Update tool - BIOS Update [BNKBL357.86A], Intel Management Engine components 11.8.50.3426, Software Guard Extensions 1.8.106.40803. Later I saw updated drivers for ethernet and video graphics driver, I tried them thinking that they could solve my problem.
The problem which I started to experience was that after some time after windows is booted internet stopped working even though NUC was connected to router with gigabit LAN and I could access internet on other devices connected to the same router.
Windows statuswas showing INTERNET ACCESS, but non of the browsers could open any site. Ony rebooting helped, but temporary.
I tried as sugested others to switch off ENERGY SAVING options on Ethernet driver, disable TCP/IP 6 protocol, flushin network sockets and hard network reset, deleting the network adapter and rebooting - none worked. Even with new ethernet driver 22.9 the problem was still there.
I don't know what to do next, I cannot simply reboot every time it stops.
Looking forward to your reply,
192khz 24Bit on NUC7i5/7i7 finally solved?
Hello!
Is the Problem with 192khz and 24Bit solved?
I can only change to maximum 176400 Hz and NOT 192000 over HDMi for my Denon Receiver.
(The receiver play 192khz with another computer)
When the Problem is finally solved which driver must i use?
thanks in advance
NUC6i7kyk usb ports not recognizing Transcend external hdd.
Just got my NUC and transferred all my old PC to it, using Laplink PCMover. Works great except:
Only the back bottom port recognizes my Transcend 500GB external drive, but then my mouse freezes!
I updated all drivers today and made sure that the USB hubs do not go to sleep. Needless to say that the drive works perfectly well on other PCs.
Have not found any similar question on the forum; any idea will be greatly appreciated!
thanks.
Nuc5i5RYH display issues?
My Nuc5i5RYH has a visible distorted line 1/3 of the way down the screen and becomes more dramatic during fast action scenes. Any suggestions please?
New NUC7i7BNH with Creators Update no HDR
Hello,
I had a series 6 NUC but read the Intel Whitepaper on HDR support so bought myself a NUC7i7BNH just to be on the safe side for playback.
I've installed a fresh version of Windows 10 with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
I have the latest Graphics Drivers and Mother Board Bios Update and are directly connected to my HDR enabled Samsung television that works fine on the same HDMI cable and plug using my PlayStation 4.
When I run dxdiag I get a message that at a hardware level the Iris 650 says;
HDR Support: Not Supported |
My full dxdiag is attached.
I only bought a new NUC for the promise of HDR support it would be great if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks.
