NUC 7i3BNH Freezes

NUC 7i3BNH / 16GB RAM / 250 GB SSD (SanDisk Ultra II SATA 2.5")

Ubuntu 16.04

During each period of inactivity, system freezes. Started with BIOS 52: screen would scramble and freeze. Upgraded to BIOS 61, screen now freezes in place. NUC also froze once I was typing in bash. Unresponsive to remote ssh login (times out). Requires hard reboot to escape.

If this an underlying graphics card issue, the following may be related:

USB-C -> MDP/DP cable looses image intermittently. HDMI -> Displayport cable fixed that problem (stable image).

Please advise if I should RMA this unit for a graphics card issue or if these issues are related to the ongoing freezes in the 7th generation series.

Behavior also noted with Ubuntu 17 Server with 4.13 kernel.

NUC NUC5i3RYH BIOS Version 0368 Slow down

Saw there was a BIOS update for the NUC NUC5i3RYH issued on 12/22 for security, figured it was the patch related to the CPU vulnerability. As I always try to maintain the most current drivers, firmware etc for the box, I upgraded from 0367, the upgrade went without issue, however, when the system came back up it was so slow, it took almost 3 to 6 minutes to reach the desktop at login, previously it was just seconds. The system as a whole was extremely unresponsive at best. Decided to attempt a revert back to 0367, and was succuessful (thank god) now everything is instant and as it was. Not sure what 0368 is supposed to fix or correct, but I would not advise upgrading to it.

NUC6i5SYK BIOS ver. 0065 Problems

Has anyone else installed BIOS update 65 on their NUC6i5SYK , or similar devices and began to have various issues?

After installing, I was most of time unable to pull up the "Windows Start" menu, unable to type in the Cortana search bar, the application Slack became hung while trying to load and after sleeping the system and waking it back up, my finger print reader stopped working and I could not get to the credential log on screen.  I was able to get into File Explorer via a short cut in my task bar and took the system back to ver. 63 of the BIOS and all is well again.  I should note that I had the Microsoft patch/update from the Meltdown exploit installed for a day or two prior and was not having these issues.  So while it could be a combination of things causing issues, they did not begin until I applied the ver. 65 of the BIOS.

Anyone have any similar experience or is it just me?

NUC 6ixSYx - new BIOS update 0065

Dear Intel people,

3.1.2018 Intel released new BIOS update ver. 0065. In release note I see only one easy descrition:

Updated CPU Microcode (Security Advisory-00088)

Can you please:

1, check and specify, if this CPU Microcode is somehow related to global Intel issue named Meltdown ? And if yes

2, can you please also tell us if our CPU will be slowed-down (in some cases) after this 0065 update?

Thank you very much,

Radovan

NUC7i5BNH Foxtel Go

Hi

Foxgo was only working partially until around November 2017 time.  it would frequently give the error "content not available" after watching for a random time.

I have other devices like a Iphone & HP i7 laptop that work fine within the same network (100mbs cable connection)

I've been through Foxtels troubleshooting many times and just about tried everything, but what happens is, live tv or catchup work for about 1 min, then I get that message.  I read on these forums user CitezenNUC also having similar issues.

Im connecting via HDMI to a samsung TV.  Maybe I should try plugging in a monitor see if I can reproduce CitizenNUCs issue where it only doesnt work with a TV and works ok with a monitor@.

My NUC is fully up to date with latest BIOS & gfx drivers installed in Win 10x64.  i've tried rolling back the gfx driver & uninstalling the last 2 Win 10 updates & completed clean reinstall of foxgo 1000's times, but have the same issue.

Please help!  I note that CitizenNUC thread is closed "assumed fixed" which isnt very helpful.  If that one is fixed, can you pls reopen and post fix details?  or maybe they just gave up?

thanks

My NUC seems to go in a continuos loop - nothing appears on the screen but it turns on then turns off continually.

I have loaded the recovery BIOS to a USB drive and it appears to load and reinstall and then tells me to return the BIOS pin back to 1 and 2 which I do but nothing changes when I reboot it? Any help please?

Hello,

I recently purchased one NUC5CPYH and I tried to install several times Linux distributions with different options without success. I am an experienced Linux user and I begin thinking that there is a hardware problem with the device.

My current hardware setup is:

- Intel NUC5CPYH with latest BIOS Version PYBSWCEL.86A.0064.2017.0815.1055

- RAM Kingston KCP3L16SS8/4 4GB (1600 MHz SODIMM, DDR3L, 1.35 V, CL11, 204 pins): bought new for this device

- SSD Patriot Torqx 2 32GB SSD: previouly used for another PC but working without error

Tests I performed:

1. I tested RAM for 10 hours with memtest56+, no error appeared.

Regression bug!

With the latest Intel HD driver GFX_WIN10_64_15.40.37.4835 for NUC Kit D54250WYK automatically installed by Windows10 the Halo2 screen flickering issue is back and makes the game unplayable again.

Other older games suffer from this issue too.

Downgrading to GFX_Win7_8.1_10_64_15.40.10.4300 solves the issue for the moment.

Please fix this!

NUC7 and Netflix HDR

I've got the NUC7i7 and running Windows 10 Pro.  I was stuck on the Creators Update for awhile, since the Fall Creators Update wouldn't install for some reason.  Netflix was running UltraHD content just fine - and looked amazing in 4K.  I could confirm by using the hidden trick CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-D

This past weekend I wiped the NUC and reloaded Windows 10 Pro, with Fall Creators Update.  Installed all the latest drivers from the NUC site.  I now have the HDR switch in graphics settings.  YouTube 4K works great.  However, Netflix is no longer offering UltraHD.  Either through the Windows 10 app, nor the Edge browser.

Anyone else having this problem?  The max I can get is 1080p.  I know it's not the hardware, as I had it working before the Fall Creators Update.

The only thing that I could think about is that I also did the HDMI firmware update after I reinstalled Windows 10.  Did that firmware update perhaps change something so that Netflix doesn't think I have a 2.2 secure handshake?

Have you seen 2018 NUC - Hades Canyon ?

Ok,  Just 32 Gb, not 64 Gb support. No eight PCIe slots. Looks like only two SDD slots. Just four cores/8 threads.
Good points - cool cover. Integrated AMD compatible GPU. Higher clock and memory speeds. Two models, high end is 100W TDP. Two Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Drives six monitors, but would rather have two or more PCIe slots.
Checking for CUDA support.

Please reply with Videos and news.
Lastly,  my apologies for complaining first. It is rude and sounds ungrateful. I am grateful.
Yes I am excited. Yes I want one. Yes more folks are cryptomining and doing Database work.  Can there be a NUC for us ?

NUC7i3BNK - TypeC to DisplayPort stopped working after 0061 BIOS update

$

I've been using a Type C to DisplayPort adapter for a few months without issues. I just installed the latest BIOS "BNKBL357.86A.0061.EB" and after the system installed the update and was booting back into Windows, I was getting no output to my monitor. It did install and was logged into the desktop, auto logs in, just wouldn't output anything to the monitor. The monitor kept going into standby mode as if the PC was off. I do have remote access which is why I was able to remote on and see that it was in fact logged in and sitting at the desktop. I disconnected the the adapter, waited a few seconds and then reconnected, thinking that'll reinitialize the display and output. It didn't. The only way to get the Type C port to output again was to temporally connect a monitor using the HDMI port, which popped up immediately. It also reinitialized/turned on the orginal monitor that was using the Type  C to DisplayPort, now listed as the 2nd monitor. I removed the HDMI cable and then the Type C port was back as primary and working again.

Is there anything I should do on this system before applying this BIOS update on remote units that are currently configured this way, that hopefully won't require anyone to also connect a HDMI cable to re-enable the Type C port?

How to Reset BIOS Password

I have a NUC5i5MYHE. I don't remember BIOS supervisor password. How can I reset the password?

When the jumper is in the normal position, it asks for the password to enter BIOS settings.

When the jumper is in the maintenance position, I can enter the BIOS menu. But it asks for the current password to change/clear it.

Taking off the CMOS battery didn't help. It cleared the date of the NUC, but not the BIOS password.

M.2 slot 1 lost PCIe protocol following Bios 0050 upgrade

$

Hello,

Out of the box, I installed Samsung 960 Pro in M.2 slot 1 and Crucial SATA SSD in slot 2 and installed Windows 10 including the latest updates.

Then, went to Intel and downloaded all latest drivers. I started by upgrading the Bios, which was a year old, but Windows won't boot anymore.

I went in the Bios to find that the Samsung is no more detected. I reset the Bios, tried to downgrade it but nothing works. I then switched the disks' slots just to test if slot 1 is still working and realized that NUC now sees both! Removed both disks and tried a Predator PCIe SSD in slot 1 but still not detected. Moved it to slot 2 and it was fine.

In short, what I have observed is that M.2 slot 1 lost PCIe protocol following Bios 0050 upgrade.

Opened a support ticket with Intel 36 hours ago but still no reply so far.

Any thoughts?

Edd!

NUC7i5BNK Problems with CIR after BiosUpdate from 57 to 61

Hello and good morning.

2 days ago i got the Biosuptdate from 57 to 61. From this Moment on my NUC cannot wake from S4 or S5 with my IR Command. I have to use Power Toggle 2 or 3 times to wake my NUC.

I replaced BIOS back to 57, but than I have Problems with my Optane and the Nuc doesn't start my windows. BUT, he wake up with the first PowerON command from my IR. After flash to 61 I need 2 or 3 times to wake... Than i change th IR Driver to the last older version, but there is no change...

In some German Boards a few people have the same Problem with NUC6 and 7 after flashing the new Bios...

For me I have a solution to wake my NUC. I use CEC and I can wait for the next BIOS. So use my note as information...

Kind regards

Uwe
