Intel NUC M.2 expansion capabilities

$

Hi,

I bought an Intel NUC5I3RYH and I need some more details on the M.2 connector: normally it is used to host an SSD, but in my case I was wondering if I could use the standard SATA port for the hard disk and, instead, the M.2 connector to host a M.2 capture card to acquire an HDMI input. On the technical datasheet it is reported "Expansion Capabilities: One M.2 connector supporting M.2 2242, M.2 2260, and M.2 2280 (key type M) modules" but no more information are provided.

Is there something in particular I have to do to make this work?

Any suggest will be particularly appreciated.

Thank you very much,

Sandro

NUC5CPYH with erratic boot problems (Ubuntu / W7)

Hi,

Last week I bought a NUC5CPYH fresh of the shelf with

- 8 Gb Ram DDR3L (Kingston 8GB 1600MHz Low Vo)

- WD Green SSD 120GB 2.5 IN 7mm

- TravelStar SATA HD 1000 Gb (very reliable)

- USB 3.0 stick 32 Gb

and got myself into an unsuspected situation with erratic and continuous boot problems.

I tested the setup with the latest UBUNTU desktop.

During installation sporadic boot problems already showed - the SSD was not always recognized.(approx 4x on 10 boots)

This resulted in no destination to install UBUNTU.

Nonetheless I managed to get UBUNTU running.

I tested the same with a TravelStar HD 1000 Gb, same pattern, the disk was not always recognized.

Also during the install process with a bootable UBUNTU USB.

With this confirmed working I moved on to W7 Pro, suspecting UBUNTU might be the problem.

After the operation of inserting USB3.0 drivers in the USB boot image, I got W7 Pro running.

I know W7 is not ideal as some (non essential) drivers are not available - but confirmed stable on other platforms.

The pattern continued - W7 did not always boot properly, activating the recovery partition on the same install.

This in the SSD drive (TravelStar HD 1000 Gb not yet tested.)

The BIOS has been successfully updated to the latest version currently available prior to installations.

When booted, the HD / SSD is always available.

The NUC boot screen is always there, BIOS is always accessible.

In BIOS the HD / SSD always shows.

I did some reading here - I saw quite a bit of boot problems, some also referring to the NUC5CPYH.
One thread caught my attention - the SATA cable on some NUC units are not standard causing sporadic boot problems.

Is this a hardware problem also occurring for the NUC5CPYH?

Any ideas welcome, I am out of options where to look or what to do.

Last resort is to send the whole lot back as unstable - not preferred at all!

Thanks!

Indra.

Only page not working is the request warranty page...Why?

Wasted an entire morning trying to contact you to return my non-working nuc (nuc6i7kyk) for repair...why do you make this process so difficult?

Seriously, I need to seriously get this repaired under warranty as it just decided to quit working with no warning and is now a dead brick setting on display on my desktop.

Please have someone contact me at my registered email as I can't afford to remain here on hold for a warranty issue...need this repaired not chat...sorry! I get cranky when, a company ghosts itself in regards to honoring its warranty.

NUC7 i5 to i7 swap - can I keep same windows install?

Just purchased a NUC 7 i5 (NUC7i5BNH) and installed memory, SSD, win 10 pro.  Decided I wanted to go for the i7 instead (NUC7i7BNH) which I ordered and will return i5 and using same memory and SSD.  Since the hardware is almost all identical other than CPU and GPU can I just swap the SSD and let Windows identify the small changes rather than re-install everything?  If so should I re-install chipset and graphics drivers?  Anything else?  I realize I will likely need to re-activate windows.  Thanks.

Hi

We have a NUC5i7RYH that is overheating and it looks likes the case took a knock at a trade show that jammed up the fan. Is it possible to buy a replacement fan or anyone know a site we can order a better fan or fanless heatsink.

Thanks in advance.

NUC6i7KYK TOSLINK Issue

My TV has HDMI audio but it is only DD 2.0 capable.  However, I have connected my NUC to my AVR through the TOSLINK capable of doing both DD/DTS 7.1.  The NUC is running the latest firmware, the latest drivers and any updates available for the device.  The problem I am having is I can only get STEREO output from the TOSLINK and I am not able to change the setting anywhere.  I see that DD and DTS is enabled but greyed out and looking at the supportable formats is only 2 channel up to 96khz.  I don't have the option of getting any surround what so ever.  I have disabled the HDMI audio as the audio from the TV is just crap like a 1930s radio.  I am running the latest WIN10 available so I know everything is good.  I don't use the wireless and have it disabled in the BIOS and everything else works fine just no surround sound.  Any help would be appreciated.

Intel NUC Board NUC7i3DNBE for Embedded solution

Hi,

I want to purchase Intel NUC Board NUC7i3DNBE for Embedded solution.

I want some clarity whether all modules will come from Intel along with board or I have to purchase it separately from 3rd party.

Following are my questions:

  1. As board doesn't ship with Wifi, Is Intel provides WiFi module, if asked for?
  2. We required Storage of 100gb or 500gb. Please provide more details about what kind of storage options available on board? Is Intel provides this memory modules if asked for (like HDD or SSD)?
  3. RAM of 32gb is required. Is Intel provides it?
  4. Is Power adapter comes with the board?

If anyone has any idea then please guide me on this.

With NUC6I5 with Iris 540 (lastest drivers) and Windows 10 I always get video playback not perfectly smooth on boh h264 and h265 videos, Hardware decoder il enagbled and boh cpu and disck usage is really low

Tested with windows mediaplayer, vlc, kodi, plex etc etc. I always get video not perfectly smooth in particular in situation of fullhd video with high movements and details. Seems like GPU can't afford it.

Is there a way to check GPU usage? CPU stays always  low under 20% and I've run video file boh from SSD and External 5400 usb3

NUC6CAYH slow USB 3.0 ports

I've just bought the NUC so I don't have any previous experiences (benchmarks). I've made all driver updates including latest 42 BIOS. OS is Win10 Pro clean install.

One thing I noticed are slow USB ports. I've tried system SSD to USB, USB to SSD, USB to USB, and the max seq write is 40 MB/s.

I checked/verified BIOS settings, set Power options to High performance, I even re-checked SSD and USB drives but they work fine and fast.

Does anyone have an idea what's wrong? What are your USB speeds?

Regards,

Thomas

Can NUC6i5SYK using DisplayPort support 4K HDR @ 60hz with OpenELEC/Kodi?

$

Dear community,

I know similar questions have been asked but they are not exactly specific to what I'm asking. I am waiting for a Sony XBR65X900E TV so I'll be switching to 4K. I currently have an old Zotac Xbox running OpenELEC and Kodi through 1080p HDMI to my receiver. I am planning on installing OpenELEC on my NUC and using an Mini DisplayPort adapter-to-HDMI 2.0 to plug in my 4K receiver, then the receiver will send the 4K signal to the TV.

Before I do all that, I was wondering if the NUC6i5SYK on Linux will truly be able to run 2160p feed with HDR (8 bit) at 60hz? It's not very clear from all the different sources I'm reading. If it can't do HDR at 60hz then I guess I'll try to look for alternative. Also, since it can only do software decoding, will be CPU be running at maximum capacity for ultra high bit rate MKVs? I've got MKVs of about 15GB per hour in 2160p definition. Will the NUC be easily able to handle such decoding?

My NUC has 8GB RAM and SSD .M2 drive.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Windows 10 Enterprise 2015 x64 LTSB no longer supported?

$

Is this version no longer supported for graphic driver updates? I can no longer update hardware that's using this version, even when fully updated with all security updates.

Current display drivers that are posted for NUC6i3 and NUC7i3 builds come up with the same message "The installation package is not supported by this processor type" when downloaded and executed manually. If I run the installer using the Intel Driver and Support Assistant, it downloads and then fails when it tries to install. Looking for a "better driver" using the Windows device manager kind of updates the driver.
Driver version listed under device manager stays at the same version - 21.20.16.4678

The one listed under the Intel Control Panel changed to a newer version, it was .4678 but now it's showing 22.20.16.4771.
I reran the Intel Driver & Support Assistant which shows both above versions installed?

Latest version: x.x.x.4849   Installed Version: x.x.x.4771

Driver Version 21.20.16.4678

Driver Date 5/17/2017

Am I missing something here? I've been able to update the graphic drivers for both Gen 6 and Gen 7 NUCs up to about a month ago. What has changed in with these driver updates that no longer works for this version of Windows?

Cheapest NUC with UEFI?

$

I'm in the market for some tiny UEFI thing just so I can tinker with the ins and outs of OS Development on any given UEFI platform.

Performance doesn't matter, storage, ram, IO don't matter - just something with USB ports I can mess with UEFI on...and ideally hook up to a screen for some text-only stuff.  Absolutely nothing fancy.

The NUC seems about right, but I'm so out of touch since they came out..are they all UEFI now?  Is there anything I should be aware of?  Are any of them "better" in some sense for UEFI than others?

Thank you.

NUC7i7BNH screen black/blank once Win10 enters GUI.

$

I didn't notice until this week because I was connecting to the NUC via Teamviewer rather than viewing its HDMI output.

I noticed that the HDMI display was black.  If the device is rebooted, the 10 year old Sony Bravia that it is connected to the NUC shows the Intel Logo and the spinning animation indicating Windows is trying to load but then before it gets into the GUI the screen signal is lost.

I connected the NUC to my PC's monitor (a 4 year old 27" Dell) and again got no signal except for while it is booting.

I then connected the NUC to a third monitor (a newish monitor) and got the desktop.

Since around the time the fall update was installed, the NUC instead of outputting 1920x1080 at 60P was outputting at 59P.  If I changed the output to interlaced at 1920x1080 then I could view the output on the Bravia and the Dell.

To reiterate the NUC was fine displaying on the Bravia and Dell at 60P from September up untill recently.

Has the fall update changed the timings of the Video adaptor somehow?

I would love for this device to be able to output to 60P again.  Its primary and secondary functions (Minecraft server and web server) were fine headless but for the media server duties that was best performed connected to the 46" TV.

Are there any solutions yet?

cheers,

voigtstr

NUC7I3BNK: Crucial MX300 275GB SATA M.2 SSD not recognized

Bought an Intel NUC7I3BNK and a Crucial MX300 275GB SATA M.2 2280SS SSD.

Although it is listed as compatible at Crucial MX300 Interne SSD 275 GB M.2 2280SS CT9857401 | NUC7i3BNK | Crucial DE  , the SSD is not recognized in the BIOS.

Already updated the BIOS to the latest version 0057. Details from BIOS setup:

- Advanced -> Devices -> SATA : SATA is active. SATA Port shows "[Not Installed]"

- Advanced -> Devices -> PCI : M.2 Slot is active. M.2 Slot shows "Not Populated"

I have no other M.2 SSD available to test if the problem is related to the SSD or to the NUC.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Dirk
