NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second (VGA)

$

Just bought a NUC6CAYH and installed Windows 10 Pro x64 a couple of days ago. A few minutes after Windows Update had installed the Intel graphics driver, the display connected through the NUC's VGA port started to turn black for a second or two every couple of minutes. During the Windows installation and before the box was connected to the Internet (and Windows was able to do updates), the problem did not exist.

To get rid of this annoying behavior, I started to look for updates and flashed the BIOS up to version 41 (from 38) and installed graphics driver 4849, which was just released a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, that did not solve the problem. I started searching this forum and found that many others are having the same problem. As outlined in other threads, this clearly is a Intel Windows driver problem. As others have tried, I installed Linux (Ubuntu 16.04.3) and I am not experiencing this annoying effect under Linux. So please fix this problem in your Windows driver - I specifically picked this box because of its VGA connector in support of my old monitor. It is shocking to me that a company like Intel is not capable to solve a driver problem that has been reported by so many so often for months.

Powerdvd HDR Audio solution

Hi my fellow NUC friends,

I have finally solved the problem with Audio in HDR mode with Powerdvd ultra 17. If you read my previous post you can see that I had audio during the .4664 gfx driver but not with the 4771. When Windows got the fall update and Powerdvd also came with an update, I lost my audio. After that I did not use my NUC so much.

Today I was googeling and found this thread:

https://membership.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/63950.page;jsessionid=BF5F8A367CA3008F83D9A8FFF91F6061#291871

By using the procedure I got my sound back

during HDR mode. Finally!!! I need to mention, I did a full reinstallation of Powerdvd before i did this.

The directory map is wrong in the link. You need to copy the CLADR-file to this directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDVD17\Common\AudioFilter

Seems like Intel and Cyberlink are not working togheter on solving this problem. Maybe there is some thread I have not found yet. But since it seems like I am the first to distribute the solution Cyberlink have now about quite a while, I expect Intel will send me a christmas gift. Not only for the solution, but for having a faulty product for almost 9 months. cvare

Ps. I did not get the side affects with the volume.

Is there an automatic power on after a power failure?

NUC7I7BNH - Which storage disk is best for my use profile?

Hello, I'm migrating my Intel NUC to the third version. I've always used the Intel NUC minipc exclusively as mediacenter, only to see the contents on the Kodi 18 Leia and as shared media server, using the Emby Server. I never use it to surf the internet or use suites as a usual pc.

Well, I'm leaving the NUC6i5SYH, with 16GB of RAM and 120GB SSD, which I bought in August 2017 and I understand that it is a great machine, including I'm reviewing it in Brazil.

Now I'm leaving for the NUC7i7BNH model (I prefer the higher model because I have more space for an SSD, for cooling and for being easier for resale.

This new model I'm buying today will come with 32GB RAM and my question is on the storage disk.

I am between the 250GB Samsung 850 PRO SSD and the 250GB M.2 Samsung EVO 960, these from the images below.

So, I would like to know from Intel:

1. Which is the best option for my use profile and for the template quoted?

2. Is this M.2 model absolutely compatible with the NUC model I am getting?

Thank you again for your attention.

Success and greetings from Brazil.

Thanks very much.

Highest resolution display with D54250WYB

All,

I'm new here, but I've been looking for a new display for my trust Intel NUC D54250WYB. I understand it doesn't support 4K @ 60Hz, but I'd like to see how close I can get with a pretty inexpensive display.

I currently run two 1680x1050@59.9 displays, and I'd like to keep one of them running on the HDMI port. First question: Can I run near 4K on the DP port with this running on the HDMI port?

I came to this forum because I found a Samsung U28E590D on sale today, and found this thread:
Re: D54250WYK, Samsung U28D590D, 4K-resolution not working where many express their frustrations that the D54250WYB doesn't support 4K @ 60Hz. I didn't have the expectation it would,  and I haven't bought the display yet, so I'm not frustrated :-) I too run Linux Mint on the NUC.

So, what's the status on that today, can we get 3840x2160 @ 40Hz running reliably on Linux with this display? What would the highest resolution I could have with 60Hz with this display?

Are there any other choices that would be better?

Another inexpensive display I have on sale today is Asus VP28UQG and then the more expensive AOC U3277PWQU and Samsung U28E850R

Any experience you can share with using them with D54250WYB and Linux would be appreciated!

NUC5i7RYB freezes streaming video with any browser

$

Hello,

With Mozilla dropping NPAPI support in the latest version I lost the last browser that would stream video without freezing.(netflix, france24.com/en youtube,...).

Right now my NUC is a very expensive brick.

I have to run for now the Extended supported Firefox Release to be able to stream anything, but this version is plagued by image stuttering and poor video quality.

As I mentioned in the title, with any browser - Edge, Chrome Mozilla- once I click on the icon to start streaming, the NUC unit freezes completely and the cpu fan starts running at full speed.

The only option I have left is to hold down the power button to stop it.

When I browse the os event log I do not see any meaningful critical message for hw or sw.

NUC is the worst platform the big Intel came up with.

With any other PC, laptop or tablet in the household I do not experience any of this issues.

If you could help me, here is the system info:

Note: all drivers are up-to-date

NUC7i3BNH HDR Graphics corruption on TV/AVR at boot, in bios, and in Windows.

$

Hello,  I have a new NUC7i3BNH that is configured as a HTPC running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (latest updates applied).  It is connected to a Yamaha RX-A770 AVR, and that is connected to a Sony x930e TV.   All connected via HDMI 2.0a/b cables, and the HDMI link from the AVR to the TV is proven via other 4K HDR assets going through it.

I have installed the latest drivers and enabled HDR in the configuration for Windows.   The TV sees the signal as 10bit yuv420 HDR.  (which I would like to actually have 444 or 422, but 420 is the only level the intel chip seems to work with)

I have a major issue at reboot -IMG_20171127_095016.jpg

The colors are all green/purple.   This happens in the BIOS,  Boot screen, and at the desktop.  UNTIL you move the mouse or click on the desktop.   This only happens once you enable HDR mode in the OS.   Once you do, any reboot after that will have this coloring issue. ... again... until you click the desktop (any click right/left)  windows seems to clean up the signal at that point.

I realize these drivers are brand new, and it seems like something is getting hung up on the reboot in the HDMI stack or that level converter in the middle of things.

Firmware is all at the latest (1.72 for the HDMI firmware) current bios, and latest drivers.    This is the only real issue I have so far with this setup.  And since it's a HTPC it doesn't reboot often it doesn't crop up much, but I wanted to post this so Intel and others know this is an issue.  Not sure if its a Windows or an Intel driver issue, but it is an issue.

Intel Management Engine update failure

My new NUC mini PC is running fine few about a week!  I installed the Intel Driver & Support assistant software and found out it required to update the Bio and some drivers.  Everything was download and updated excepted this one; Intel management engine.  After downloaded and updated, it still shows as the same; needed update.  I did it five times and still show the same!  How to bring it to the latest update? Is it a problem? Thanks.

NUC5i7RYH CMOS battery / time resets / no bootable device

HI,

I have an NUC5i7RYH which has woked perfectly for almost exactly 2 years. All updates have been applied. It now has these issues.

1. First boot in the morning and I get the following.

a. A message "No bootable device" (although not every time). Sometimes I have to powercycle the device several times before it will boot.

b. The clock time on starting Windows 10 has slipped back by a few hours.

I have replaced the CMOS battery twice (I thought maybe the first one was also defective). No improvement.

If I do not unplug the power overnight, then it boots normally.

NUC 7i5BNH HDMI Audio is not listed as Playback device

Hello,

I have a NUC 7i5BNH running under Windows 10 64 bit and can not get the HDMI Audio to work on my monitors.

I have updated all drivers and can see that Intel Display Audio is listed in Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers but it does not appear in the Sound control dialog.

I have both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" selected, but all that shows up are the Realtek devices connected through the audio jack.

I am running one monitor on the native HDMI port and one on the Thunderbolt port.

The Intel Display Audio driver is 10.24.0.1 dated 10/26/2017

The Graphics 640 driver is 23.20.16.4849 dated 10/27/2017

Windows is 10 Pro version 1703 Build 15063.726

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling nd have updated the bios and hdmi firmware to the latest version.

Thanks,

Question NUC6i5SYH / bios 063

Hello,

I have a NUC 6i5SYH
I just set up the latest bios (063)
There has been a change since. At the NUC front there is a blue diode.
With the old bios and at startup this diode was all the time blue.
With the bios 063 at startup it is briefly orange then changes to blue.

Is this normal?

If yes, what does the orange color mean?

Thank you

Finding right NUC

I love the Intel Nucs. I've purchased several of them for my personal use and recommended them for others also. However, your new format for displaying information about your products is really horrible!!! When I want to browse your latest NUC products, the most important thing is looking for a NUC with specs that meet what I'm looking for, and number one is which CPU. But instead of organizing your NUCs by commonly used CPU names, such as i3, i7, Celeron, etc., which everyone is familiar with, you're now using numbers such as "95442 Processor Included". Come on, who uses those kinds of processor numbers? Perhaps some enthusiast who's researched all the CPUs and knows exactly which precise one they want. But certainly not the general public, and I bet even most Intel employees wouldn't know off-hand which number goes with which processor name, unless there's some secret method to your numbering system that I'm not aware of.

In short, when I want to search on your website to see the specs for all Intel NUCs with an i3 processor, I want to be able to see a list of filters that has i3 as an option, not some cryptic processor number.

Furthermore, your specs once you do find a NUC are far from being clear. If I type the model number into Amazon or any retailer, they show right in the heading what the commonly used CPU name is, plus amount of memory/storage capacity, etc. if it's a NUC with those options. But when I pull up something like the NUC7I5BNKP, which has Windows 10 pre-installed, I'm presented with specs such as Launch Date and Lithography at the very top. How are those significant for someone just wanting to find the basic specs of the product? Obviously there's some storage device included with this NUC if Windows 10 is pre-installed, but I can't even see anyplace in the specs where it even lists what storage it includes. How can you expect me to buy your product when you can't even list what kind of storage the product includes? You need to include commonly used CPU name, amount of installed RAM, storage, OS, and things that every other PC maker on the planet uses to describe their products displayed prominently at the top of the specs. Forcing people who want to buy your product to search all over, and end up visiting non-Intel sites just to get the most basic of information about your product is quite unbelievable. It's as if whoever designed your NUC webpages is doing their best to destroy your NUC business by frustrating potential buyers.

Please, please, please, completely redo your product pages and absolutely include the commonly used processor names.

How to turn off usb power on software-initiated reboot?

$

We are evaluating NUC7i7 and NUC7i5 for use in embedded application. One of our custom USB-connected devices hangs up when the NUC is rebooted. We need to be able to turn off USB power for a moment just before or during a software-initiated reboot. This will reset the attached USB devices.

Any advise will be of great help.

Skull Canyon NUC, no HDMI or mini Display port to HDMI?

$

So I've been using a Skull Canyon NUC for about a year now, and had it hooked up via a mini display port to DVI adapter to a monitor. I just got a 27" 4K display with HDMI and DisplayPort, but can't seem to manage to get the Skull Canyon NUC to connect either by HDMI or Mini Display Port to HDMI to this monitor.

If I reboot, I do see the monitor via HDMI connection, then it does the boot screen and starts to load windows, and goes completely black and no signal.

In the Intel Iris Graphics Control Panel, it does list the monitor connection via HDMI2, but doesn't display anything for it. In Windows' Display settings, it doesn't show any custom scaling, Resolution, or Orientation options (all just greyed out drop down boxes).

I can get it to display via HDMI to my 1080p monitor just fine... How do I get it to display on a 4K HDMI connection? ugh...

Am I missing something?

Edit: Works fine with Samsung 4K TV...

Running Bios 50

Intel Iris Pro 580 Graphics Driver is: 23.20.16.4849 (up to date)

HDMI 2.0 Firmware was applied

In Device Manager, it lists the monitor as a "Generic PNP Monitor". I've reached out to the manufacturer if there's a driver .inf I can utilize.
