Bugs in latest BIOS (370/371) for NUC5i5RY?

$

I was fiddeling with the performance settings of my NUC5i5RYH / BIOS:

Date : 06/04/2018

Vendor : Intel Corporation (www.intel.com)

Version : RYBDWi35.86A.0370.2018.0604.1034

-Board-

Name : NUC5i5RYB

Vendor : Intel Corporation (www.intel.com)

and run into following problems:

The 'voltage offset' settings in Visual Bios under 'performance' tab are not respected after saving.

You can set whatever you want with no effect  - except the voltage offset setting for graphics.

With intel XTU tool you will see then after boot into windows that no offset which was previously set and saved in bios is applied - except the one for graphics. Other hardware info tool do confirm this.

If you set a value less than '-0.5' e.g. voltage offset with XTU  for one of these values (core / ring (uncore) / graphics: change together to same value in XTU) the NUC will crash and recover in BIOS.

So you can set offset value for with XTU but not in BIOS (exept the offset for graphics).

'RealTimePerformanceTuning' on/off does not affect this issue.

Next issue ist the scaling in BIOS for all negative offset values:

It starts with '-0.5' and continues with  '-0.10, -0.15, -0.20...' till '-0.50' again!

The lowest possible negative value should start with '-0.05' not '-0.5'.

Using positive Values the scaling is correct.

EDIT:

- Same issues with BIOS Date : 07/09/2018

Version : RYBDWi35.86A.0371.2018.0709.1155

- only lowest negative value affected with wrong scaling of offset values

NUC8i7HNK doesn't boot from USB

I have an USB drive with UEFI OS image and successfully installed OS using it.

But when I tried to boot from this USB drive for the next time it just gone from boot menu and from list of bootable devices in visual bios.

I used the front panel USB to install OS but after that I've tried to use some of USB ports on back panel and after several attempts ALL of my usb ports stopped to recognise USB boot drive.

But ports itself are working fine. When I boot into OS peripheral works fine and I can even access data on the pen drive attached to the front panel USB.

Also usb keyboard and mouse connected to same ports working fine in Visual BIOS. So this is not a hardware issue I guess.

BIOS version is 0049.

NUC7CJYH2 does not work with Onkyo receiver

NUC7CJYH2, Bios 44

Onkyo HT-S5805

LG 55UH6159

When I connect the NUC directly with the TV all seems fine.

When I connect the Onkyo in the middle there is no picture, even no boot screen.

When I use my notebook instead I get a nice pic.

I read about same issues with different NUCs and different Onkyos and it looks like there has nothing changed.

So - is this NUC worthless if one got an Onkyo?

NUC7i3BNH died!

Hello. I have been using the NUC7i3BNH for less than a year when all of the sudden it just died. Completely shut off and now there is no stand-by LED, no response from the power button, nothing. I tried all the steps recommended by Intel for this issue. Tried a different power source, a different ssd/memory, etc. The unit is completely lifeless! I have reported it to Intel support, have not heard back yet. Anyone experienced this with the NUC? I had been using a 5th gen NUC for over 3 years with no issue.

Thanks!

INTEL NUC Celeron - NUC6CAYH 16GB RAM?

Good morning, my query is if I can enter 2 memories of 8gb (16gb) each in the intel NUC with celeron NUC6CAYH, I have seen that other models like GIGABYTE BRIX GB-BPCE-3455 with the same processor can support it.

Could you get some bios update that can give us that capacity?

NUC8i7HVK - Boot delay after power on and no BIOS entry instructions

I've noticed a couple of issues on my NUC that may be nothing, but seem strange nonetheless:

1. There is a roughly 8-10 delay between when I press the power button on the NUC and when the display shows the initial boot screen (and USB peripherals get powered up).

2. The initial boot screen shows "Intel NUC" and a couple of squares in the upper right hand corner of the display with the labels "Setup" and "BBS", but that's it. There are no instructions that say "Press F2 to enter BIOS" or anything like that - the screen is blank other than the "Intel NUC", "Setup", and "BBS" text

Are the above issues normal? The NUC is otherwise fully operational, and so the issues seem harmless, but it seems strange that the boot screen wouldn't give the user some guidance about how to get in to the BIOS, and the long power on delay between display initialization seems excessive compared to other motherboards I have used.

Thanks!

BIOS update of NUC7i5DNH to ME11.8.55.3510 (DNKBLi5v.86A.0053.2018.0903.2245) failed! Any help?

My system NUC7i5DNH is remote and unattended. Normally I had no issues BIOS updating via ME Remote Desktop - until today. Trying to update to  DNKBLi5v.86A.0053.2018.0903.2245 fails miserably with FwUpdateFullBuffer.

This is what I've got when trying to flash via MeshCommander.

What is the problem. Is there any way to flash BIOS in this case (unattended remote system accessible only via network)

Kind regards,

VR Headset for NUC8I7HVK?

$

I plan to buy a VR Headset to use with  NUC8I7HVK and I have looked at the 2 best products, Oculus Rift  and HTC Vive.

HTC Vive

I have run the program SteamVR Performance Test and the Test Result is attached.

The conclusion is that the NUC Graphic does not fulfil the recommended minimum.

The recommendation is to upgrade of the Graphic board!

The minimum Graphic requirement is similar capacity as Geoforce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX480, which are about 20% faster than RX Vega M RH.

The processor are ok.

Worth to mention is that the test program on the Vive Web does not report correctly for the NUC. It reports Intel Graphic instead of AMD, but Steam VR Performance Test do it right.

Oculus Rift

Here it's going better. The test program reports that everything is ok, but a little minus for Graphics.

Oculus has two requirements specification instead of one from HTC Vive (Recommended minimum).

1. Minimum. This is a little lower requirement than HTC Vives and the NUC fulfils it.

2. Recommended. The NUC dows not fulfils it.

Anyone here that has used VR Headset with the NUC?

Experience….

The only way to upgrade is to add an external graphic card through Thunderbolt bus.

NUC8i7HVK HDMI signal problem

$

Hello,

I have a quite annoying video problem with my NUC8I7HVK, the video signal keeps refreshing randomly (the TV detect the NUC as the HDMI cable was just plugged)

Le nuc is connected to the TV using a HDMI cable..(HDMI 2.0 Câble, gold contacts, Ultra HD 4K rés 4096 x 2160p (60Hz), 32 cannals, Ethernet Speed 100MB/s, 4K 3D Support, Retour Audio (ARC), 18Gbps)

I tried using a Mini Diplay- HDMI cable but the resolution is only of 1080P (this is surely due to the cable limitation.. i will try with a new high-end cable soon)

My config is as follows:

NUC8I7HVK

RAM 16 Gig 3200, HyperX HX432S20IB2K2/16 Kit (supported&tested by intel..)

BOXNUC7I3BNK Recognizes EVO 970 as Legacy and not UEFI

$

Got a new BOXNUC7I3BNK NUC Kit.  Only using a Samsung EVO 970 M.2 ssd.  The bios recognized the drive as an M.2 ssd, but

in the boot panel, does not recognize it as a UEFI drive, only as a Legacy drive.

I updated to the most recent Bios, followed an Intel support article 000022600 (5-11-18) for Windows 10 system.

Item 3 sub item C says to "On the Boot > Boot Configuration menu, in the UEFI boot pane, OS Selection is set to

Windows 8.x/Windows 10".  My Bios does not have an OS Selection option in the UEFI boot pane.

Please tell me I am missing something.

Thanks in advance.

Ugly worn off logo

Forgotten to mention it earlier. The black paint on the on-off switch from the Skull Canyon(NUC6i7KYK) is worn off. So soon?

It now looks more like a vague symbol of some far far a way 'intelligent' alien nation ;-)) on the front.

That's what a team colleague makes of it. Funny jokes all over. Not so representative for Next branding our Unit of Computing.

Am I the only one who noticed this and has this issue.

The switch is used twice a day on workday's.

Reliable Type C to Display Port cable with MST support [NUC7i5BNK]

$

Hi Everyone,

I became a first time NUC owner as of yesterday

I have a NUC7i5BNK running Fedora 28. My work setup consists of 3 Dell U2415 (1920x1200, MST bandwidth required in total is 13.86Gb/s) displays connected via DP daisy chaining. The setup worked just fine with my Windows desktop using a DP cable, but I'm having issues getting things working with the NUC and a type c to DP cable.

Rarely do I get all 3 displays to show up, usually all 3 are black and then go to no signal. Sometimes they constantly flicker as if the display manager can't figure out what to do with them or the cable is intermittent. The BIOS reliably shows up, but mirrors across all 3 displays. When I initially installed the OS, the NUC was only connected to one monitor.

Here's the current cable I'm using: Amazon.com: USB C to DisplayPort Cable 4K@60Hz, CHOETECH USB 3.1 Type C to DP Cable Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible with 2…

I believe the culprit to be the cable itself, and I was wondering if anyone else here has had luck with a C->DP cable and using MST. If someone could point me in the right direction that'd be awesome!

NUC7I7BNH overheating when streaming BBC

$

I have an intel NUC NUC7I7BNH acting as a media center and haven't had any issues until the last couple of days.

My system is shutting down and when re-booted saying it was the result of overheating.

The issue only occurs when I am streaming content from the BBC web site via MS edge.  If I download the content it is fine and streaming from other sites Netflix's and Amazon don't seem to have any issues.  That and I haven't really done that much checking other browsers as I don't want to damage the unit but getting it too hot too many times.

All of the drivers and bios are up to date.  I have tried adjusting the setting in the bios to keep the processor cooler, but I am surprised that it is only the BBC site that seems to cause the issue.  I had process monitor open while streaming and the processor only seemed to be running at <15% so it isn't very stressed.

Does anyone have an idea as to what can be causing this.

NUC6CAYH Intel(r) PTT Recertification Service Using 30-40% CPU Constantly

$

Yes I have:

  • Waited for it to stop.
  • Reset the BIOS (this is the most bug-ridden BIOS I have ever encountered by the way, despite the high number of updates being released).
  • Reinstalled the TXE driver.
  • Reinstalled Windows (clean).

No matter what I do, the Intel(r) PTT Recertification Service is hogging between 30 and 40% of the CPU, 24/7. Sometimes it stops for less than a minute, but then it immediately resumes. I have reinstalled the driver and Windows multiple times, and it's always the same.

There's aren't many explanations for this problem; It's Intel's hardware running Intel's set of drivers on a clean Windows 10 x64 install with nothing else running. It seems like an Intel problem.

Another thread on here said that the issue resolves itself, with someone positing that the system needs to be recertified after a change. However I've had this system idling for 5 days straight and Intel(r) PTT Recertification Service is STILL hammering the CPU. Perhaps this could have something to do with the TXE driver being 2 years old?

Replacing bad CMOS battery or jumper

$

I had to pull CMOS jumper out and then back in to get my 8i7HVK to turn on once after I unplugged it and moved to another room and once it just shut off on its own and needed the CMOS to be reset. Everything on the NUC is up to date and its been working fine for a few days.  I don't want to just start pulling at the battery as it seems to be taped onto the board in some way covered by tape.  Should I replace the battery and/or the jumper cable and if so does anyone know the exact steps?  The instructions listed for other NUC's don't seem to exactly apply.  Thanks.
