Strange behaviour

How my Nuc is connected to my TV.

NUC------------>YAMAHA RVA3060 HDMI input#4.------------------------------> TV sony KD-55X9005A input 4.

I have a really strange behavior.

Plugged to my LG Monitor, I do see the flickering as well on my NUC6CAYH that a lot of us are complaining about.:

I also tried the NUC plugged on my TV as described above through My Yamaha receiver.

I do not see the flickering anymore, BUT when I start  or stop the NUC, My TV is switch automatically to HDMI1 .  The funny part is I have no cable connected on HDM1 ....   it is very easilly showable as it happens on ALL switch on/off.

REALLY strange.

Needless to say, all drivers are up to date. HDMI has been flashed to last FW.

WHAT IS THE PLAN TO GET DECENT HDMI BEHAVIOUR ?

Intel NUC7I5BNK Windows Shrink after the compter sleep

After few weeks use and test of 4k60Hz video output over HDMI2.0 on my NUC7I5bnk, and after updating all the driver and BIOS using Intel Driver & Support Assistant, I still have problems with my open windows, some open windows shrink to small windows and position will be moved to top left corner when NUC goes to standby mode.

I was quite surprise of the problems because it never happened in the past in the other computers that I have. I thought that Intel was a good and reliable brand, and I feel otherwise now.

Please some one advise how to solve this problems.

I'm having an issue where the NUC6I7 puts the monitor to sleep, but if it sits like that long enough the monitor never comes back.

I have to shut the system off.  Unplug the power, and the monitor, and the power from the monitor, then turn it all back on.

When Using "itk6.efi -b -x MyCustomBios.bio -ic -il MyLogo.jpg" I get "There was an issue getting the current BIOS custom settings"

I have the PY0064 Firmware.

linux NUC6i7KYK cannot select F2/F7/F10 + cannot update BIOS using any method

Hi

I have been running and continue to run the latest linux mint on my NUC6i7KYK without any real problems (though it would be nice if it played nice with my 4K monitor using max resolutions - but I can live with 1920x1200).

Recently I tried to boot off a windows USB to do something I needed windows for, only to find I could not select F10 (or F2/F7)- even though it gives me the menu for them on a cold start (never on a restart). I tried everything from different cables to different keyboards (including wired) to no avail.

Eventually I tried to update to the latest BIOS (50) using the methods on your site that don't require F2/F7/F10. None worked. For example, with the remove BIOS jumper, BIOS on usb, then turn on method it just got caught up in a loop turning on and off again every 10 or 15 seconds ???

I would appreciate any ideas - including anything I could try from inside my working linux mint.

I would love to buy a NUC7i5 but can’t find a list of
multiple USB-C (Display port) to HDMI Cable to select from, I do understand I
can only need and use ONE.  I also see
many post on https://communities.intel.com
about usb-c to HDMI cables that don’t work.
Not going to buy one until I can confirm a cable to buy.  Also, this ONE ISSUE has me researching other
NUC like computer that hopefully have 2 video ports like any combination of
HDMI and DisplayPort.  Also, kind of HATE
the idea of tying up my One Thunderbolt 3 port for an HDMI Cable would have preferred
to give up an USB 3 port for DisplayPort.
I also find the information about this on https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005571/mini-pcs.html
completely inaccurate because it implies you can connect two monitors with
PURELY HDMI Cables and yet the NUC7i5 only have one.  And the link to the  Multiple Display Configuration Wizard completely
has no info on any of the NUC7’s

OR like a number of laptops I have seen have 2 USB-C / Thunderbolt Ports

NUC7i5BNH and HD Graphics Driver v4678

As I have noted elsewhere in these forums I have been running a NUC7i5BNH with bios v46 and HD Graphics Driver v4678 for some time. I have also asked that Intel not concentrate on issues relating to 4k graphics resolutions to the exclusion of interests of people who wish to continue with bios v46 and HD Graphics Driver v4678. I have found that this combination of bios and graphics driver is the only one, so far, that gives me trouble-free video and HDMI audio at 1920x1080 resolution. All of the more recent drivers give me audio problems, and it could well be related to my requirement to persist with bios v46.

Nuc7i5bnk gigabit lan negotiation fail

$

I have all the latest bios/drivers installed and noticed my network speed fails to initialize a 1000Mbps connection and uses a fallback to 100Mbps.

(Network driver is version 22.7.1)

I have the nuc connected to a gigabit switch which shows the connection speed with its leds ... orange being 100Mbps, green 1000Mbps

When the nuc boots, I see the network come up 3 or 4 times for 1 or 2 seconds in gigabit mode always losing connection (all lights out), then eventually it stays active in 100Mbps mode.

When I go to the properties of the network adapter, I see in the link speed tab, (its set to auto negotiation) current speed is: "100Mbps Full Duplex (EEE: Not Negotiated))"

I know gigabit was working before, unfortunately I cannot say what version of the driver was working and when it stopped ...

NUC7I3BNKL: Media test failure, check cable

Dear all, I am grateful for your help in advance.

I thought buying a NUC just 4 months ago, Win10, keeping the SSD in-brand with a 128gb SSD would be fool-proof for my ageing father system.

The system was working flawlessly, until he reports to me the error: PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable.

He said it fixed itself once, and then since then continuing failure now.

I go into the bios and with UEFI Boot, there is no 'boot drive'.

But when I look in the chipset SATA controller: I can see M.2 NVME SSD: "Intel SSDPEK...." drive listed.

I pulled out the ram and m2 card and re-fitted it. still same error.

I presume this is either the M2.SSD or the NUC?

Im guessing it could be a problem with the NUC, as the M2 is recognised in SATA controller, but not able to locate a boot drive.

Im trying to work out what to return / RMA.

Many thanks for your help

BIOS - Real Time Clock RTC reverted back or paused -NOT A CMOS Battery Problem!

TRIED ALL YOUR MINI PC's

you're probably have problem in the Real Time Clock (RTC) AND IT'S NOT CMOS BATTERY PROBLEM

the real time clock just resets back to default time and date (December/2016 00:00)

i have more than 30 pcs of Intel NUC5CPYH updated to Bios version 0064 All of them are new.

bought at different dates

The reason is that i'm the only one who complains about that problem is because of i'm using this nucs in offline-mode and it's impossible to connect them to the internet for time synchronization always

i checked voltage of cmos battery - it's correct (3v) and you all agree with me that it can't be that more than 30 pcs has the same problem

1. THE TIME AND DATE ARE STOPPING FROM MOVING

2. SOME OF THEM ARE REVERTING BACK DECEMBER 2016 00:00

3. IN SOME OF THEM THE TIME AND DATE STOOPING/REVERTED TO DEFAULT WHEN THEY ARE PLUGGED OUT OF POWER FOR 3-4 DAYS OR SO...

I have big organization of my customers that i sold the nuc for them, and now they want to fill a lawsuit against me because of that! it's absolutely not a operating system related issue because i see the time and date stop / revert problem as soon as i hit F2 to the bios , before the operating system boots up and i tried also to remove the hdd and see if it happens to nucs that stays offline without hdd - it happens!

tried every scenario you could imagine , including replacing the cmos battery although it's new nucs units (3 weeks-2 months since opening the box maximum)

IT'S ABSOLUTELY a BIOS BUG that you never could test at your development because i guess you and most of your customers using them with an internet connected and time sync ability.

please solve this issue for me , i'm bagging you i'm here any time to do any test that you want online with you 24 else i will get into big trouble with my customers and lose big money.

NO CMOS ERROR / CMOS LOW BATTERY OR ANY ERROR MESSAGE IS LOGGED OR SHOWN DURING BOOT

Just for your notation According to this page CMOS Battery on the Intel® NUC

You tell customers that the CMOS battery do responsible for keeping the time running during power off for 3 years.

I'm sure this bug is not battery related issue after what i've tried

to test you must use a unit without any connection to the internet for time and date syncing

Annoying noise for NUC7i5BNH when idle?

$

Hi,

My NUC7i5BNH has been generating some annoying high frequency noise since day 1. It's quite audible even when it's about ~3000RPM according to the BIOS set up. I have many laptops such as Thinkpad X1, and when idle I don't hear any noises for those devices at all. Is that expected or did I get a defective unit?

Also, whenever I briefly place the unit upside down, the noise is much higher and it sounds like something is getting scratched. Is it also expected? I avoid leaving it upside down and not sure if it's an indicator of the item being faulty.

Thanks!

Hello

Nuc6cayh BIOS Version AYAPLCEL.86A.0041.2017.0825.1152

Physical Memory

Module Name Crucial BLS4G3N169ES4.16FE

Serial Number 521700E4h (3825211218)

Module Size 4 GB (2 ranks, 8 banks)

Module Type SO-DIMM

Memory Type DDR3 SDRAM

Memory Speed DDR3-1600 (800 MHz)

Module Voltage 1.35 V

The problem is that when turning on NUC two 4GB and it turns on,  displays a message that the memory density is not and that the memory is smaller than 4GB have 1GB or 2GB.

After accepting Y, the system starts normally and works without problems. There is no memory problem and is seen as 8GB. Work perfect

I use the latest bios from intel, it annoys me a lot every time I turn on my computer

Also does not work in this fast boot system.

One 4GB memory works fine and there is no message.

Misc. NUC7i5 issues (Ready Mode / Sleep, Wakeup / Display, Crashes, ...)

$

Hi

For about 1/2y I got my NUC7i5BNH which I didn't use much up to now but there are numerous problems and issues nevertheless which is veery annoying for a new device not that cheap!

To have it said right from the beginning - I tried everything: Misc. Win 10 versions and reinstalls (Now fresh install of Fall Creators Update), driver uninstall, reinstall, updates, Bios updates, Bios reset and settings, LAN / WLAN connection and adapter deactivation, different HDMI cables, Remote desktop, ...

BTW: Ram is 2x 8G Corsair value select with some nice black / yellow stickers on it if I remember right the look...

Intel Ready Mode: Had problems from the beginning like others - (Immediate) wakeup after entering Ready mode, not entering Ready mode or what I found out and it seems now that it just doesn't display it properly on the device (LED). Not sure if just the display is still off then or it's still in Ready mode. It does use less power indeed and when pressing the power button it does not shut down but reactivate / wake up totally - assumed display is waking up again (Possibilities: No signal at all, signal but black screen, Picture is green / purple as with RGB / YcPbr mismatch between GFX and screen).

What I found out (in the event log and on the device): From remote desktop it wakes up from ready mode or at least changes LED color when connecting or when pressing "standby" and then disconnecting (Disconnecting: wakeup reason "Unknown"). After manually entering ready mode from the device itself by pressing standby it wakes right back up again, normally after a few seconds, sometimes after a few minutes. Event log shows these entries right when entering ready mode this way or also under other circumstances - no idea if it matters and what it says (translated from DE to EN):

- The policy path of "{a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a}" was reset by "{C: \ Program Files \ Intel \ Intel (R) Ready Mode Technology \ IRMTService.exe" (process ID: 3464) to "a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a} ".

- From the process "C: \ Windows \ System32 \ dllhost.exe" (process id: 4104), the policy scheme of "{a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a}" was reset to "{381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e } "

- (a18... to a18..., a18 to 381 and vice versa)

Interestingly it seemed to work for a short while now after clean installing Fall creators update with all recent drivers. No idea what changed yesterday. What I tried was changing from WLAN to LAN and totally deactivate WLAN (power - does it even make a difference between WLAN off or WLAN adaptor deactivated?). I also installed Teamviewer yesterday. But after Ready mode didn't work properly anymore I uninstalled Teamviewer and changed and de-/re-activated LAN / WLAN back and forth and rebooted and so on but didn't really help... (BTW: The ready mode version on the NUC page isn't recent. does this make a difference?)

Display wakeup from ready mode / sleep as described above. Only shut down the device and power on again helps in that cases. Found out, this mostly only occurs when having been connected through Remote desktop earlier. Also when playing a sound from the NUC like when changing windows audio volume, at the beginning there is a noise, some kind of distortion. no issues afterwards with playing audio. Only the first time audio plays after everything was silent before. every time... (LCD, HDMI 2.0).

Rarely display goes black for a few seconds and comes back again then.

Random bluescreens since the beginning with different windows / driver versions as described above.

Didn't notice this for a few days now but right now it crashed again after beeing away for a few minutes!! VEEERY glad I saved this text before I went away...!!

Came back, moved mouse, display got signal, remained black, lost signal. After a while got signal again when windows was fresh booted... This may not happen!!!

- Event log (translated DE to EN): The computer was restarted after a fatal error. The error code was: 0x0000007e (0xffffffff80000003, 0xfffff80054820275, 0xfffffc8880a75d98, 0xfffffc8880a755e0). A full image was saved in: C: \ Windows \ MEMORY.DMP. Report ID: 1f8da98e-b63d-42d9-9860-c83df23160eb.
No idea what to do with those memory dumps. Luckily, bluescreens rarely occur during normal usage...

About the software installed: Primarilly IIS web server and hMailServer are running. But i guess this should not have any influence since I understand that ready mode is for having the PC running in a low power when not active using it but needing it remain on for servinc services - like in my case web and email...!?

P. S. It is possible to make the NUC totally quiet by using "Fanless" in BIOS which makes no sense but it is not possible to make it totally quiet otherwise during normal idle or ready mode because max fanless cpu temp. possible in bios is 48°C?!? This is ridiculous and makes no sense. Also, that for RAM max themp is on the other side 55°...!? I'm running it now at 25% fan up to 55° cpu I think having it around 50° this way in idle. In ready mode I saw a min. cpu temp of 45° or less.

P. P. S. What's interesting about the ready mode / standby / wake up problem: Power consumption isn't higher when it seems to "wake up" from ready mode (as said display is still off then). Power is the same if not even less as when the LED indicated ready mode...!

Thx & regards

NUC6CAYH loses ethernet connection

Hello everybody,

today I was making a speed test of my Internet connection (fiber, with 1 Gbps download, 200 Mbps upload) with the Speedtest application for Windows 10 (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/speedtest-by-ookla/9nblggh4z1jc?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0), which I already did several times before. Today, instead, during the upload speed test, suddenly the ethernet connection of the NUC crashed, and I couldn't have it working again since I restarted the NUC. Since I haven't any keyboard or monitor attached to the NUC, which I control only by remote desktop, and I have disabled wireless connection on it, this s quite annoying.

Is there anybody experiencing the same issue, maybe under similar conditions of load on the onboard ethernet card?

is there a way an hardware way to turn on the wireless connection in these circumstances?
